To have any hope of navigating our path forward, we try to remind ourselves where we came from. As we prepare to open our doors we’d be remiss to not reflect on our history, and embrace how it shapes our future.

That first sip of Bell’s Two Hearted Ale enjoyed in between trails in the Appalachians turned into a homebrew cloning attempt at a bachelor party in 2009, a full homebrew system in 2010 and an obsession that could only be satiated by incorporating OIB and expanding to a commercial brewery and taproom by 2014. Inspired by the culture and history surrounding Orchid Islands citrus industry, it wasn’t enough to brew walking distance to the Atlantic or just borrow the aesthetic to do justice to our namesake, we wanted to make Indian River Citrus a keystone of our brand, and every single brew.

A fury of rewarding moments. Indian River Citrus League Certification, cover of @bevnet, @pbs tastemaker, IRC Entrepreneurs of the year and @jakeowenofficial guest pouring in the taproom; we were riding high on accolades, hops and citrus when we were forced to close the taproom in 2020 and the brewery operations a year later. Distilled down to our essence and founding principles, we coalesced and put our best foot forward.

Honoring our local history and believing it has value for the future of our community is a core principle of OIB, and we felt it was important to embrace that perspective with our next move. A friendship from 2014 with the Corr’s turned into a partnership, and an opportunity to move into the new historic location at @hoganyards upgrading the brewing facilities and expanding the shared space surrounding the taproom.

OIB was founded on love and still powered by love. We are excited to welcome you into our new home.
